Benjamin Fung is a Full Professor at McGill University's School of Information Studies and holds the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Data Mining for Cybersecurity. He leads the Data Mining & Security (DMaS) Lab and is an Associate Member of the School of Computer Science. His research focuses on advancing data mining techniques for cybersecurity and healthcare, emphasizing privacy, confidentiality, and security in big data. Key interests include malware analysis, smart cities, authorship forensics, and disinformation detection. Dr. Fung has secured over CAD 14.4 million in grants and has authored over 180 refereed publications with an h-index of 62.
Education: Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc. in Computing Science from Simon Fraser University (2007). Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Software Engineering. Recognitions include ACM and IEEE Senior Membership, and inclusion in the Top 2% Scientists globally (Stanford, 2021–2025).
Research Interests: Data Mining, AI, Cybersecurity, Privacy-Preserving Techniques, Malware Analysis, Smart Cities, Crime Investigation, Health Informatics.
