Dr. Soo Jean Park is a Senior Research Fellow in the Applied BioSciences department at Macquarie University. She holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Sydney (2014) under Prof. Matthew H. Todd. Her research focuses on developing environmentally friendly pest management solutions using natural products and advanced materials, with a particular emphasis on pest insects and waste valorization. She leads projects addressing fruit fly control, sustainable materials for controlled release of active compounds, and converting waste into valuable resources.
Her research themes include natural product-based attractants/repellents, composite membranes for slow-release systems, and waste-to-value strategies. Dr. Park collaborates extensively on projects such as improving sterile insect techniques, integrating AI for pest monitoring, and managing invasive species in macadamia and fruit crops. She actively supervises HDR students in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and materials science. Notable collaborations include the Biosecurity Futures Research Centre.
Her recent publications (2021–2025) explore pheromone dynamics in fruit flies, antifungal agents from natural sources, and rectal gland volatile analysis. These studies contribute to understanding insect communication, pest control mechanisms, and sustainable agricultural practices.
