Sonya Sawyer Fritz is a Professor of English at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), affiliated with the School of Language and Literature. She holds a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and specializes in children’s/YA literature and culture, Victorian literature, and women’s studies. Her research explores intersections of historical and contemporary literary representations, particularly focusing on gender and cultural narratives.
Her notable work includes co-editing The Victorian Era in Twenty-First-Century Children’s and Adolescent Literature and Culture (Routledge, 2018). She contributes to journals like Neo-Victorian Studies and Girlhood Studies, and her essays appear in multiple collections. She serves as an associate editor of the Children’s Literature Association Quarterly and on the Charlie May Simon Book Award committee, which promotes literacy for Arkansas students.
Fritz integrates community service into her teaching, partnering students with organizations like the Children’s Advocacy Alliance and Faulkner County Senior Wellness Center. Her courses emphasize service-learning to connect academic work with real-world impact.
