Sonja Pyott is a Senior Lecturer at King's College London, affiliated with the School of Neuroscience and the Wolfson Sensory, Pain and Regeneration Centre (Wolfson SPaRC). Her research focuses on the fundamental biology of sensory encoding in the inner ear, pathophysiology of hearing and balance disorders, and their impact on health and wellbeing. She employs interdisciplinary approaches including epidemiology, physiology, imaging, transcriptomics, genomics, and evolutionary biology across animal models and human studies.
Key collaborators include the MSCA Doctoral Network PROVIDE, Professor Karen Steel (King's College London), Professor Pim van Dijk (University Medical Centre Groningen), and Professor Christine Köppl (Oldenburg University). Her work emphasizes drug repurposing strategies for age-related hearing loss and elucidating mechanisms of vestibular dysfunction. She is committed to training students at all academic stages.
Recent publications highlight discoveries in hidden hearing loss mechanisms, age-related vestibular loss, and population-based tinnitus studies. Her research bridges basic science and translational medicine, aiming to improve prevention and treatment strategies for sensory disorders.
