Sonja Lutovac is an Associate Professor at the University of Oulu’s Faculty of Education and Psychology, holding the title of Docent. Her research focuses on pre-service teacher identity development, particularly in mathematics education, and explores themes such as emotions in teaching, narrative-based methodologies, and relational dynamics in education. She currently co-leads projects like ‘Unpacking and Redefining Changing Relationships in Teachers’ Work’ (RELA, 2020-2024) and ‘Pre-service Teachers Navigate Teachers’ Changing Work and Its Relationality’ (NAVI, 2022–2025).
Her work integrates narrative research to understand how teacher educators can support identity formation, including studies on failure experiences and their impact on professional identity. She also investigates emotions in higher education, student feedback, and supervision practices. Lutovac’s contributions span educational sciences, teacher education, and university pedagogy, with a focus on relational challenges and social-emotional competence in teaching.
