Dr. Sonja Georgi is a Lecturer and Academic Student Advisor in the American Studies and English programs at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her teaching spans introductory courses to seminars and thesis supervision, focusing on African American and Native American literature, transnational migration, science fiction, and film/media studies. She coordinates Erasmus exchanges and co-chairs the binational Mainz-Dijon program, while also advising high school students through JGU’s Frühstudium initiative.

Her research explores inter-cultural identity negotiations in African American and Native American literary/cultural productions, with a focus on autobiography, novels, and migration narratives in Transnational American Studies. She is currently working on a book project addressing these themes from the 18th century to the present.
Her publications include analyses of science fiction texts like Alex Garland’s Ex Machina, Octavia Butler’s Parable series, and critical studies of transethnic identity in historical and contemporary works. She also contributes to collaborative projects on migration and visual culture.
Dr. Georgi is a member of the Department of English and Linguistics’ Community of Practice “Feedback-Portfolio,” co-developing writing pedagogies and feedback systems for student work.
