Sonja Geier is a Lecturer at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture (HSLU T&A), specializing in architecture and sustainable construction. She holds a Diplom in Architecture from TU Graz (1991-2000) and a PhD from TU München (2015-2018). She is Deputy Head of the Competence Center Typology & Planning in Architecture (CCTP) and a Guest Professor at the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Construction (IBK), focusing on innovations in timber construction.
Her professional competencies include timber construction, circular economy, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has advised numerous national and international research programs, including the Scientific Board of the Sustainable Built Environment (sbe 2022) and the Austrian State Prize for Architecture and Sustainability.
Research interests center on circular construction, sustainable materials, and innovative processes in timber. Notable projects include circularWOOD (circular economy in timber) and leanWOOD (process optimization). Her work emphasizes dialogue-driven design and resource efficiency.
Recent publications highlight advancements in timber reuse, BIM integration, and policy frameworks. She has been awarded the DGNB Sustainability Challenge 2024 for circularWOOD. Professional roles include membership in the Swiss Wood Innovation Network (S-WIN) and the EUSALP Action Group for Strategic Sectors.
