Dr Sonja Andrew is an Associate Professor in the School of Design at the University of Leeds, specializing in textiles and fashion with a focus on cultural memory and semiotics. She holds experienced PhD supervisor status and has served as an international examiner. Her research employs creative processes to explore textile semantics, multi-modal communication, and audience perception. Current projects include UKRI NERC-funded circular fashion research and collaborations with earth scientists to bridge textile production and environmental science. Andrew is Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research Studies and a DARE working group member advising University-Opera North partnerships.

Research interests span textile narratives, material culture, and decolonizing methodologies.
