Sonia Vaida, MD is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, as well as a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also serves as Chief of the Division of OB Anesthesia, Division of ENT Anesthesia, and Division of Multi-Specialty Anesthesia. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Her research focuses on airway management techniques, obstetric anesthesia, postoperative pain management, and clinical education. Notable contributions include studies on epidural failure during cesarean deliveries, opioid alternatives in otolaryngology, and historical advancements in airway management. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, with a recent emphasis on anesthesia practices and medical student curricula.
Dr. Vaida has pioneered an objective pain scoring system for chronic pain patients and led the implementation of a robust anesthesiology curriculum for medical students. Her work integrates clinical innovation with educational rigor, impacting both patient care and healthcare professional training.
