Introduction
Dr. Sonia Troeira Henriques is an Adjunct Associate Professor and IMB Fellow at the University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB). Her research focuses on developing cyclic and disulfide-rich peptides to breach cell membranes for drug delivery, particularly targeting cancer and infectious diseases. She holds significant academic roles and has received prestigious fellowships including the ARC Future Fellowship and Marie Curie Fellowship.
Education
Dr. Henriques earned a Biochemistry degree (2004) and a PhD in Molecular Biophysics (2008) from the University of Lisbon. She has conducted postdoctoral research at IMB, Université Libre de Bruxelles, University of Southern Denmark, and University of California Santa Barbara.
Research Interests
Her work integrates biophysical methodologies to study peptide-membrane interactions, with applications in cancer therapy, antimicrobial development, and biotechnological tools. Key areas include:
- Designing cell-penetrating peptides for intracellular drug delivery
- Developing peptide-based anticancer drugs targeting breast cancer, leukemia, and melanoma
- Optimizing antimicrobial peptides against drug-resistant pathogens like MRSA
Articles Overview
