Sonia Sharmin is a Lecturer in the Department of English & World Languages at Augusta University’s Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy Education (TESOL) from the University of Georgia (2018), an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Dhaka (2006), and a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Dhaka (2004). Her academic work primarily focuses on innovative literacy pedagogies and English language education.

Her research explores intersections between rhizomatic theory and literacy education, particularly through graphic novels. She contributes to academic service as a member of the Pamplin Faculty Liaison Committee since 2024.
Her recent publication, Rhizomatic literacy through graphic novels (2023), reflects her focus on interdisciplinary approaches to English education and critical literacy development.
