Sonia Mokhtari is a composer, sound designer, and music teacher at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCC), where she holds a position in the Technology and Applied Composition department. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Music Technology. Her expertise spans music education, sound design for visual media, and film scoring. She has been recognized with multiple awards, including Best Film Score accolades from the South Film and Arts Academy Festival and the Gangtok International Film Festival for her work on Max: Shadow of Apocalypse.
Education: Sonia earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Université Lumière Lyon 2, France, an MFA in Music and Sound for Visual Arts from the same institution, and a certificate in Audio for Game and Composition for Film and TV from Berklee College Online.
Research Interests: Her creative work focuses on film scoring, orchestral composition, and the integration of technology in music education. She is passionate about using music as a universal language to connect diverse audiences.
Awards: In addition to her film score awards, she has received recognition for 2037: Under Artificial Justice at the Tagore International Film Festival. Her compositions often explore themes of emotion and texture, inspired by late 19th and early 20th century composers like Debussy and Ravel.
Labs/Teams: Mokhtari collaborates with various ensembles and institutions, including the Conservatory of Lyon’s Percussion Orchestra, where she composed pieces for movie concerts. She also works with artists like Yassin Bouhaik and Laetitia Pansanel Garric on documentary and feature film projects.
