Sona N. Golder is a Professor of Political Science at The Pennsylvania State University and holds a Professor II position at the University of Bergen (2022–2025). She earned her Ph.D. from New York University, with prior studies at Sciences Po and the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on political institutions, coalition formation, and electoral systems, with emphasis on parliamentary democracies. She has authored books including The Logic of Pre-Electoral Coalition Formation and Multi-level Electoral Politics, and co-authored textbooks on comparative politics.
Current projects include the Norwegian Research Council-funded INSTAPARTY initiative examining party instability in European parliaments. She serves as an associate editor for Research & Politics and on editorial boards for leading journals. Her work explores intersections of electoral systems, representation, and institutional dynamics.
