Kaare W. Strøm is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego, based in the Department of Political Science. His research focuses on political parties, coalition theory, European politics, and parliamentary democracy institutions. He has held prestigious fellowships including the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford (2004-05) and the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio, Italy (2001). Strom has also served on the National Science Foundation political science panel and editorial boards of major journals.
Strom earned his Ph.D. in Comparative Politics from Stanford University (1984). His work spans theoretical frameworks like Party Competition Theory, Coalition Governance, and Institutional Design, with emphasis on Scandinavian and European democracies. Key contributions include Minority Government and Majority Rule, co-edited works on coalition governments, and the textbook Comparative Politics Today: A World View.
