Solvita Burr is an Acting Instructor of Latvian in the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Latvia (2015) and an M.A. in Language Pedagogy from Rēzekne Academy of Technologies (2009).

Her research focuses on linguistic landscapes, second language acquisition, and Baltic cultural studies. She explores how visual elements in urban spaces interact with language learning and cultural identity. Her work bridges applied linguistics with urban studies and visual culture analysis.
Dr. Burr's publications examine cemeteries as tourism destinations, gender representation in semiotic landscapes, and the role of linguistic landscapes in pragmatic language teaching. Her recent work (2023) investigates foreign language learning through animated documentaries.
She teaches courses in Basic Latvian, Second-Year Latvian, and Latvian Literary and Cultural History. Her pedagogical approach incorporates urban linguistic environments and digital humanities methodologies.
