Solveig Kringlebotn is a Professor of Singing at the Academy of Opera within the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and holds a part-time professorship at the Barratt Due Institute of Music. Her academic roles are complemented by a distinguished international performing career spanning major opera stages globally. She holds a permanent 50% academic position since 2018, transitioning to her current professorship in 2019.
Education: She trained at the Stockholm Academy of Opera. Career Highlights: International breakthrough roles include Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte at the Salzburg Festival and the 1991 premiere of Lutosławski’s Chantefables et Chantefleurs at London’s Royal Albert Hall. She remains active performing in venues like Paris’ Philharmonie and as Carlotta in Norway’s Phantom of the Opera production.
Research Focus: Explores Wagnerian vocal landscapes, sustainable performing arts practices, and pedagogical innovations. Recent work includes studies on masterclasses’ relevance, youth vocal development, and cultural entrepreneurship through concert production analysis.
Awards: Knight 1st Class of the Order of St Olav (2004), Critics’ Award for La Bohème (Norwegian Opera), and prestigious honors like the Lindeman Prize and Spellemann Award. She has also contributed to TV mentorship programs such as Stjernekamp.
Teaching & Mentorship: Known for nurturing Norway’s leading singers, emphasizing technical mastery and artistic expression. Collaborates frequently with Nils Harald Sødal and Benedikte Sofie Ribe on interdisciplinary projects addressing mental health and sustainability in the arts.
