Sok Kean Khoo

Sok Kean Khoo is a Professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). He holds affiliations with the Van Andel Institute and Saint Mary's Health Care. His research focuses on molecular biomarker discovery, biospecimen science, and host response to environmental changes. Khoo holds a Ph.D. in Fisheries Genetics from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, an M.S. in Reproductive Physiology, and a B.S. in Aquatic Biology from the University of Science Malaysia.

His research spans Neuroscience (Parkinson's disease biomarkers), Cancer (genetic drivers of metastasis), and Dried Bloodspot analysis (neonatal gene expression). Notable grants include funding from NIH, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, and The Beckman Foundation. Over 65 publications highlight his work in microRNA biomarkers, chromosome instability, and archived biospecimen analysis.

Khoo teaches courses in genomics, responsible research conduct, and biotechnology. His lab contributes to translational research in diagnostic tools and environmental health impacts.
