Soichiro Takemoto is an Assistant Professor at Waseda University's School of Culture, Media and Society, Faculty of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Holding a Doctor of Literature (2025), he also serves as a part-time teacher at Komazawa University's Department of Buddhist Studies. His research spans East Asian Buddhism, Japanese Buddhism, Tendai and Hosso sects, and the history of Nanto Hokurei thought.

Specializing in doctrinal classification theories and historical Buddhist debates, Takemoto has received multiple research grants including Waseda University's Specific Research Grant for Early Career Support and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science's KAKENHI. His work examines the interplay between Tendai and Hosso sects, focusing on scriptural interpretations like the Saicho-Tokuitsu debate and the role of texts such as the Mahāyānasaṃgraha in East Asian Buddhist thought.
Takemoto actively participates in academic conferences across Japan and Asia, presenting on topics ranging from medieval Nara Buddhism to Tang Dynasty Tendai teachings. He serves on editorial boards and steering committees at Waseda University, while contributing to societies like The Nanto Society for Buddhist Studies and the Society for East Asian Buddhist Studies.
