Sohee Ryuk serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow Level I at the School of History, University College Dublin, contributing to the European Research Council project 'Land Limits: Towards a connected history of population, environmental change, capital and conflict in Russian Eurasia, 1860s-1920s.' Her research 'Village encounters in Kutaisi Governorate' examines rural integration into global markets in the Transcaucasus during the late imperial and early Soviet periods.
Her academic qualifications include:

Dr. Ryuk's research focuses on Russian Empire and Soviet Union history with regional expertise in the Caucasus and Central Asia, specializing in material culture, social history, craft traditions, textiles, economic history, and gender studies. Her work investigates how cultural artifacts—particularly textiles—reflect social and economic transformations in Eurasian history, maintaining an active research agenda on heritage and craft production.
Her scholarly output demonstrates interdisciplinary connections between art history, material culture studies, and imperial history, particularly through analysis of Central Asian carpets within Russian imperial contexts and their role in cultural heritage formation.
She has received significant research support:

- PhD Scholarship from Gerda Henkel Foundation (2021-2023) for 'Weaving 'Oriental Carpets' into the Soviet Union'
