Sofie Boldsen is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of Jyväskylä, working on the project 'Asymmetric Encounters: Intersubjectivity and the Sense of Boundaries' led by Dr. Joona Taipale and funded by the Research Council of Finland (2022-2026). She also maintains an affiliation as a Postdoc at the University of Copenhagen. Holding a PhD in psychology and an interdisciplinary master's degree in philosophy and psychology from Roskilde University, Denmark, her academic trajectory bridges philosophical inquiry with psychological research.
Her research focuses on phenomenological approaches to autism, with particular emphasis on tactile sensation, intersubjectivity, and the sensory dimensions of social experience. Boldsen's work challenges traditional cognitivist approaches to autism by highlighting embodied and experiential dimensions often overlooked in mainstream research. Her publications consistently examine how sensory differences shape autistic sociality and self-other differentiation.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong thematic focus on tactile processing in autism (2025), the double empathy problem (2025), and phenomenological methodology applied to autism research. Her work spans multiple disciplinary perspectives including somatosensory neuroscience, psychoanalysis, and autobiographical accounts, creating an interdisciplinary space for understanding autism through the lens of lived experience.
Boldsen is actively contributing to a paradigm shift in autism research that moves away from deficit models toward understanding neurodiversity through embodied intersubjectivity. Her recent publications in Human Development and other reputable journals demonstrate her growing influence in this emerging field.
