Sofia Wickberg is an Assistant Professor in Public Policy and Governance (tenure track) at the University of Amsterdam, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She is also an Associate Research Fellow at Sciences Po’s Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) and the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Evaluation of Public Policies (LIEPP).
Her research focuses on comparative politics, anti-corruption policy, public integrity, and the role of ideas and expertise in policymaking across national, transnational, and European levels. She specializes in qualitative methods, particularly discourse and framing analysis, and investigates how corruption is constructed as a public problem in Western Europe. Her work also explores the transnationalization of policymaking and its implications for democratic governance and policy evaluation.
Sofia is a founding member of the Interdisciplinary Corruption Research Network and collaborates regularly with international organizations including the OECD, European Commission, Open Government Partnership, U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre, and Transparency International. These partnerships reflect her strong engagement with policy-relevant research and global governance challenges.
She previously taught at Sciences Po (Paris and Reims) and the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Her doctoral thesis, "Global instruments, local practices. Understanding the ‘divergent convergence’ of anti-corruption policy in Europe", was defended on July 2, 2020, under the supervision of Colin Hay and examined by a distinguished jury including Diane Stone, Bo Rothstein, and Cornelia Woll.
