Sofia Michopoulou

Sofia Michopoulou is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton and a Consultant Clinical Scientist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Her research focuses on developing imaging and fluid biomarkers for dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, while integrating artificial intelligence for diagnostic and prognostic applications.

Her research spans neuroimaging quantification, inflammation biomarkers, and clinical translation of imaging techniques. Recent work includes AI-driven neuroimaging analysis, dosimetry optimization in radionuclide therapy, and multi-modal PET/SPECT imaging studies. Publications reflect interdisciplinary collaborations across nuclear medicine, neurology, and computational diagnostics.

Sofia supervises BSc, MSc, and PhD students while teaching medical imaging at multiple levels. She contributes to the Royal College of Radiology's physics training modules and actively leads clinical innovations in nuclear medicine service delivery.
