Sofia Grigoriadou is a research assistant and doctoral student in German Linguistics at the University of Duisburg-Essen since May 2021, specializing in linguistic integration. She collaborates on the DFG transfer project "Families and their linguistic dynamics – strengthening speakers of majority and heritage languages." Additionally, she works as an authorized translator and sworn interpreter for Greek since 2015.
- Education: MA in German Studies/English Studies/Business Administration (University of Duisburg-Essen); Certificate in Foreign Language German Teaching (Goethe-Institut & University of Kassel); Study semesters abroad in France (Université de Reims) and UK (University of Portsmouth).
Her research focuses on heritage language teaching for minority languages, compatibility of European language policies with local practices, multilingualism, identity, and linguistic rights of migrant communities. She advocates for family languages and uses qualitative methods in multilingualism research.
- Memberships: Active member of InZentIM young talent network since November 2021; co-founded "Working Group on Migrant and Minority Languages in Germany."
She previously held non-academic roles in energy industry project management (2006-2021) and interned at the European Commission (2005).
