Dr Sofia Biffi is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Geography under the Faculty of Environment. She also works at Aarhus University's Institut for Agroøkologi in Denmark, focusing on EU Horizon MARVIC and BESTMAP projects.
- BSc in Natural Sciences (University of Milan)
- MRes in Biodiversity & Conservation (University of Leeds)
- PhD in Agro-ecology (University of Leeds)
Her research centers on agro-ecology, particularly soil organic carbon stocks, sustainable soil management, and the environmental impacts of hedgerows. She investigates carbon sequestration in agricultural landscapes, agri-environment schemes adoption, and farmland biodiversity enhancement through ecological interventions.
Key publication trends highlight her work on hedgerows as climate mitigation tools, soil carbon modeling, and the intersection of agricultural practices with biodiversity conservation. Collaborations span institutions like the University of Reading, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, and RSPB Hope Farm.
She co-led the Soil Health Parliamentary Inquiry response for the University of Leeds, demonstrating her influence in policy-relevant research. Current projects include MARVIC (model calibration for soil carbon monitoring) and BioDAR (aerial insect monitoring using satellite data).
