Dr. Sobia Zafar is a Clinical Associate Professor and Discipline Lead for Paediatric Dentistry at The University of Queensland (UQ). She holds an affiliated position at the Child Health Research Centre and serves as the President of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (ANZSPD) Queensland section. Her academic journey includes a DClinDent and PhD from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Dr. Zafar’s research and clinical focus revolves around dental education, digital dentistry, and children’s oral health, particularly for those with special needs.
She has contributed over 100 publications, including journal articles and book chapters, and has supervised numerous students. Recognized for her teaching excellence, she has received awards such as the UQ Teaching Excellence Award and a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Her community work includes leading initiatives to provide dental care to underprivileged children through organizations like Turbans4Australia. Dr. Zafar is also a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and has been honored with the LeadHers Rise Community Award.
Her research spans topics such as silver fluoride efficacy, dental trauma management, and ergonomic practices in dentistry. She actively engages in educational innovations, including virtual reality and simulation-based training, to enhance dental education.
