Snow Yunxue Fu is an Assistant Arts Professor in the Department of Photography & Imaging at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Her work focuses on creating immersive digital experiences that bridge traditional landscape art with contemporary technological perspectives.
Research Focus: Fu specializes in digital arts, particularly in developing virtual reality environments and 3D moving image installations. Her work explores the intersection of technology and nature, examining how digital representations shape our relationship with the natural world. She draws inspiration from both Chinese traditional landscape painting and Western artistic traditions, creating what she terms the "digital sublime."
Her artistic practice involves creating liminal spaces that exist between representation and theatricality, the abstract and the real, using VR as a medium to challenge perceptions of reality and environmental relationships.
Creative Works: Fu has produced several notable installations including "Gorges" (2018), a three-channel 3D moving image piece exhibited at the Thoma Art House in Santa Fe; "Karst" (2019), a VR experience shown at the Chazan Family Gallery at Rhode Island College; "Still" (2016), a commissioned installation at the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology; and "Pro" (2014), exhibited at the Yellow Peril Gallery in Providence.
Her works have been featured in various galleries and exhibitions, demonstrating her active engagement with both academic and public audiences in exploring digital art forms.
