Smitha Mathew is an Associate Professor at the Medical College of Georgia, affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). She holds an MD from Ross University School of Medicine (2011) and a BS in Biology from Drexel University (2007), and is board certified in Georgia. Her academic and clinical work is centered on pediatric critical care and long-term outcomes for ICU survivors.
Her research focuses on Post Intensive Care Syndrome and PICU Survivorship, exploring the physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges faced by children after critical illness. These interests are reflected in her teaching and clinical leadership, particularly in critical care pediatrics and respiratory therapy management.
The recent publications highlight her active engagement in pediatric critical care research, primarily through abstracts and journal articles. The work spans clinical outcomes, survivorship, and patient management in the PICU, indicating a consistent focus on improving post-ICU care pathways for pediatric patients.

Dr. Mathew has served as Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy (2021) and as a Physician Informaticist, reflecting her leadership in clinical operations and data-driven care. She has also contributed to professional service as a reviewer for Frontier (2022–2023) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (2022). She teaches courses including RPED 5004 (Pediatrics Critical Care), RPED 5002 (Pediatrics General), and PEDS 5018 (Pediatric Critical Care).
