Sjaak Hurkens is a Research Professor at the Instituto de Análisis Económico (IAE) of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain. He holds a PhD in Economics from Tilburg University and an MSc in Mathematics from Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen. His academic career includes tenured roles at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where he served as Tenured Associate Professor (2002–2005) and Assistant Professor (1996–2002). His research focuses on microeconomic theory, game theory, and industrial organization, with notable contributions to topics like bundling strategies, crowdfunding mechanisms, and telecommunications policy.
Hurkens has secured extensive funding, including grants from the Spanish Ministry of Science and the BBVA Foundation, focusing on areas such as market design, social networks, and policy interventions. He has authored over 28 peer-reviewed articles in journals like the Journal of Economic Theory and the Economic Journal. His work bridges theoretical insights with practical applications in telecommunications, finance, and regulatory policy.
