Siva Thambisetty

Siva Thambisetty is an Associate Professor of Law at the LSE Law School, part of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research focuses on legal frameworks for innovation in emerging technologies, intellectual property rights, and biodiversity governance. She has advised Pacific Small Island Developing States and the G77 during BBNJ Treaty negotiations and leads the Oceans Biodiversity Collective funded by LSE’s Knowledge Exchange and Impact program.

Her work integrates international environmental law, biotechnology law, and global health policy with a focus on equitable access to genetic resources and marine biodiversity. Key projects include studies on synthetic biology (funded by EPSRC) and marine genetic resources under the Nagoya Protocol (EU Horizon 2020 grant).

Recent articles emphasize digital sequence information governance, pandemic vaccine equity mechanisms, and the role of the High Seas Treaty in biodiversity finance. Her research bridges legal scholarship with policy advocacy, particularly in advancing fair benefit-sharing models for genetic resources in international agreements.
