Dr. Siobhan Donovan is a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, University College Dublin (UCD), where she has been teaching German Studies since 1999. She is currently serving as Vice-Principal for Teaching & Learning in the UCD College of Arts & Humanities (2023–2027) and coordinates the B Ed in Education, Irish and/or Modern Languages program. Her academic background includes a PhD and BA in German and French from Trinity College Dublin, along with a Professional Diploma in University Teaching and Learning from UCD.

Her research focuses on German and Swiss-German literature from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a strong interdisciplinary emphasis on music, opera, and adaptation studies. She is particularly known for her work on Gabrielle Alioth and the intersection of literature and music, especially German opera. Her teaching spans language modules, literary studies, and interdisciplinary courses such as German Opera and Adaptations, where she integrates music and cultural analysis.
The most recent publications reflect a sustained engagement with German Romanticism, ecocriticism, literary adaptation, and Swiss-German cultural identity. Her edited volumes and chapters demonstrate leadership in German studies in Ireland and beyond, often bridging literary, musical, and political themes. She has also contributed significantly to pedagogical innovation, aligning language teaching with CEFR standards and promoting universal design in education.
