Siobhan Carter-David is an Associate Professor of History at Southern Connecticut State University's School of Arts. Her work focuses on African American history, cultural studies, and the intersection of fashion/beauty culture with race, gender, and urban history. She actively engages in public history initiatives and media studies, particularly exploring how fashion and beauty practices reflect socio-political dynamics in African American communities.
Her research has been supported by grants including the CSU-AAUP Faculty Research Grant (2014–2015) and the Schomburg Center's Scholars-in-Residence Travel Award (2012–2013). She has contributed to interdisciplinary projects, such as the 'Speaking of People: Ebony, Jet and Contemporary Art' exhibition catalog (2014) and co-authored a book chapter on African American empowerment through fashion (2015).
Carter-David is committed to pedagogical innovation, co-organizing workshops like 'Undoing Racial and Intersectional Inequities in Our Classrooms' (2021) and presenting on topics such as hip-hop style politics and historical legacies of Black feminist figures.
