معرفی
Jerome Dotson is an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the Department of African American Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in U.S. History and an M.A. in African American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research explores African American history, Southern foodways, hip hop, folklore, and the politics of the body.
Dotson’s current book project, No Pork on My Fork: Race, Dietary Reform and Body Politics, 1830-1990, examines how dietary practices have shaped Black radicalism. This work, rooted in Food Studies, interrogates the cultural and political significance of pork consumption in African American communities from slavery through the 1990s Hip Hop era. His recent publications include a journal article on pork consumption in Kentucky and the Cotton South (Journal of Arizona History, 2023) and a chapter on family and memory in Southern pork culture.
No scientific awards are explicitly listed, but his scholarly contributions focus on interdisciplinary approaches to race, food, and history. He teaches courses such as AFAS 371 (Hip-Hop Cinema) and AFAS 444 (Rethinking Race and Health in the U.S.).
