Professor Sinead Brophy is a leading academic in Health Data Science at Swansea University's School of Medicine, where she serves as Director of the National Center for Population Health and Wellbeing Research and Early Years Leader in Administrative Data Research Wales. Her work bridges epidemiology, data science, and public health policy, with a focus on translating health data into actionable population health insights.
Brophy's research interests span Data Science, Epidemiology, Maternal and Child Health, Chronic Conditions (particularly arthritis), Health in the Workplace, and Primary School Networks. Her work consistently emphasizes the application of health informatics to real-world population health challenges, with notable contributions to understanding health trajectories from childhood through adulthood. She has pioneered methodologies for analyzing routinely collected health data to address critical questions in public health.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on data linkage methodologies, population health monitoring, and the intersection of health with social determinants. Brophy's work increasingly addresses the complex interplay between healthcare systems, social services, and educational outcomes, particularly through her leadership in the HAPPEN and Born in Wales cohort studies.
