معرفی
Dr. Sina Shadfar is a Research Fellow at Macquarie University's Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Research Centre within the Macquarie Medical School. He is an early-career researcher and lecturer, leading pioneering studies on neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on aging as a key driver of MND.
Education:
- PhD in Neurobiology, Macquarie University (2017–2021)
- Master's in Neuropharmacology, Yeungnam University (2013–2016), studying neuroprotective effects of antidepressants in Parkinson’s disease
Research Interests:
His work spans aging neuroscience, gene therapy for neurodegenerative diseases, and motor neuron disease. Current projects include Australia's first mRNA therapy targeting aging in MND, funded by FightMND. Key themes include telomere dynamics, protein misfolding, DNA repair, and oxidative stress in neurodegeneration.
Recent Publications:
His recent articles explore TDP-43 pathology, ER stress, telomere elongation, and redox activity in ALS/FTD. All five 2024–2025 articles reflect his focus on molecular mechanisms and therapeutic innovation.
Scientific Recognition:
- 13 awards, including two Best Paper Awards (2022, 2023)
- CASS Foundation Travel Award (2024)
- FENS-IBRO Young Investigators Training Fellowship (2018)
Teaching & Mentorship:
He teaches courses like Human Cell and Molecular Biology, Clinical Neurosciences, and Introduction to Medical Research at Macquarie University. He supervises PhD, MRes, and honors students, including Fabiha Farzana and Emmaline Frogley.
Leadership:
Active in academic governance, he chairs the ECR Enabling Scheme Grant Assessment Panel (2025) and the Best Annual Publication Award committee. He also leads the 2023 EnCourage ECR Symposium and the Macquarie Neurodegeneration Meeting series.
