Prof. Dr. Sina Ober-Blöbaum is a full Professor for Applied Mathematics at Paderborn University, leading the Numerical Mathematics and Control research group. She previously held an Associate Professor position at the University of Oxford (2015-2020) and was a Junior Professor at Paderborn University (2009-2015). Her primary research focuses on structure-preserving simulation and optimal control methods for mechanical, electrical, and hybrid systems.
- Education: Dipl. Math. in Technomathematics (2004), Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics (2008) from Paderborn University
- Postdoctoral: California Institute of Technology (2008-2009)
Research Interests: She specializes in Lagrange/Hamilton systems, variational integrators, fractional calculus, multirate dynamics, and turnpike properties in optimal control. Her work combines geometric mechanics with computational methods for applications in astrodynamics, drive technology, and quantum dynamics.
Scientific Engagement: She has organized multiple minisymposia at international conferences (ECC, MTNS) and lecture series at Summer/Winter Schools. Awards include the 2009 Paderborn University best PhD thesis award and best paper/poster accolades at conferences (2008-2011).
Projects: Leads initiatives like Symplectic discretizations for optimal control, PhoQC: Photonic Quantum Computing, and Intelligent technical systems OWL. Her publications emphasize geometric numerical methods and their theoretical foundations.
