Simone de Bruin

Dr. Simone de Bruin serves as a Lecturer at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, leading the Lectorate Living Well with Dementia. Her mission bridges practice, education, and research to drive sustainable innovations in dementia care and support systems.

She earned her PhD from Wageningen University & Research in 2009, focusing on daytime activities at care farms as innovative dementia care solutions.

Her research pioneers green care models emphasizing nature integration, meaningful daily activities, and nuanced dementia understanding. She actively develops collaborative frameworks across care networks to translate evidence into practical applications that enhance quality of life for dementia patients.

Dr. de Bruin coordinates major research initiatives including Enable-dem and PRODEM, while representing Dutch universities of applied sciences on Health Holland's mission team IV. She maintains dual advisory boards—one with dementia patients and families, the other with field professionals—to ensure research relevance and real-world implementation across care, policy, and education sectors.
