Simone Immler is a Professor of Genetics and Reproduction at the University of East Anglia's School of Biological Sciences. She is affiliated with the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation and the Organisms and the Environment research group. Her work focuses on understanding evolutionary consequences of sexual reproduction, gamete evolution, and epigenetic effects. She holds a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Sheffield (2006) and an MSc from the University of Basel (2001).
Her research combines experimental approaches with mathematical modeling, studying organisms like zebrafish, Atlantic salmon, and fungi. Key interests include anisogamy, sperm-mediated epigenetic effects, and sexual dimorphism. Current projects involve investigating haploid selection, transgenerational epigenetics, and the mechanisms of semen's evolutionary strategies, funded by the Leverhulme Trust and EU Horizon 2020.
Her lab includes postdoctoral researchers (Ding He, Ghazal Alavioon, Claire Armstrong), PhD student Berrit Kiehl, and research assistants David Murray and Rozalia Korbut. Notable work includes studies on paternal environmental effects and sperm proteomics.
