Dr Simone Glanert is a Reader in Law and Director of the English and French Law programmes and the Kent Centre for European and Comparative Law at the University of Kent’s Kent Law School. She holds a PhD from the Sorbonne, an LLM from Cornell Law School, and advanced degrees from Université Panthéon-Sorbonne and Université de Nanterre. Her research focuses on comparative law methodologies, legal translation, and the Europeanization of laws, with recent work extending into animal law. She has authored and edited influential books including De la traductibilité du droit (2011) and Rethinking Comparative Law (2021). Dr Glanert has held visiting professorships in Canada, Qatar, and Switzerland, and served as a Fellow at institutions such as the Dora Maar House (France) and the German Literature Archive (Germany). She currently co-leads a research project on Comparative Animal Law.
Her teaching spans comparative law, French law, and legal interpretation, with supervisory expertise in comparative law, EU law, and legal hermeneutics. Professional roles include membership on the Executive Editorial Board of the American Journal of Comparative Law and reviewing for the Luxembourg National Research Fund.
Recent publications highlight her engagement with animal law’s comparative dimensions, legal translation theory, and EU legal discourse challenges. Her work bridges legal theory with interdisciplinary approaches, emphasizing the complexities of cross-jurisdictional legal practices in an era of globalization.
