Simone Bersini

Simone Bersini is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), appointed in 2023. He is affiliated with the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale since 2020. His research focuses on vascular aging mechanisms, cancer metastasis, and bioengineering applications in disease modeling.

• Educational Background: Bioengineering (BSc and PhD, Politecnico di Milano, 2010 and 2014).
• Visiting Research: MIT (Kamm Lab), National University of Singapore, Harvard-MIT (Khademhosseini Lab), and Salk Institute (Hetzer Lab).

Research interests include aging-related diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s, Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome), biofabrication of microphysiological systems, and integration of omics data with machine learning. He leads projects funded by the ERC, Novartis Foundation, and Swiss National Science Foundation.

• Awards: ERC Starting Grant (2023), transferred to Switzerland to study vascular aging mechanisms.
