Simone Bedford is the Associate Head of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Sunderland, overseeing blended learning programs including BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing and Midwifery. She is also the University’s Armed Forces Champion and Chair of the Veterans and Reservists Network, actively supporting the Gold Armed Forces Covenant. A registered nurse and former Royal Air Force Nursing Officer, her career spans clinical practice, military service, and academia. She transitioned to education at Swansea University as a Senior Lecturer before joining Sunderland in 2016, leading the BSc Adult Nursing Practice program to notable accolades.
Her teaching focuses on health law, ethics, and women’s health, while her research explores pedagogical practices and medical ethics. She has held roles in leadership and program development, including Team Leader for Postgraduate Nursing and Work-Based Learning programs. Her achievements include the Guardian league table recognition and Student Nursing Times Award nominations.
