Simona Monaco is a Researcher (RTD-A) at the Interdepartmental Center for Mind/Brain Sciences (CIMEC), University of Trento. She uses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study neural mechanisms of perception-action coupling, motor imagery, and haptic processing.
Research Interests: Her work bridges visual, cognitive, and motor neurosciences, with emphasis on top-down processing during action planning and cortical mechanisms for multisensory integration in grasping tasks. Recent projects examine feedback pathways from higher-order areas to primary visual cortex (V1) during dark conditions and imagined movements.
Scientific Contributions: 15 most recent publications focus on topics like haptic size estimation, modality-invariant spatial targets, and cortical connectivity during action planning. These works appear in Vision Sciences Society, Italian Society of Neuroscience, and European Workshop on Cognitive Neuropsychology meetings.
