Professor Constanze Hesse holds a Personal Chair at the School of Psychology, University of Aberdeen, where she leads the GRaSPER Lab (Grasping, Reaching and Spatial Perception Experimental Research). Her work bridges perceptual processes for action planning and control with investigations into how physical and affective material properties influence behavioral intentions.

Research interests focus on experimental behavioral methods (psychophysics) and neuropsychological studies examining visuomotor behavior in patients with perceptual/spatial impairments (hemianopia, visual neglect). Recent studies explore crossmodal texture perception, grasping mechanics, obstacle avoidance, and attention allocation during motor tasks.
Key article themes include visuomotor control, perceptual-motor integration, haptic-visual processing, biomechanical constraints, spatial cognition, and motor expertise. Her 2015-2025 publications span neuropsychological dissociations, Weber’s Law violations, temporal-order judgements, surface property effects, and visual memory in reaching/grasping.
A scientific award includes Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She coordinates course PS4050 and has secured a 2023-2026 Open Research Area grant with collaborators in Germany and France for studies on negative affective touch in interactions.
The GRaSPER Lab, located in the William Guild Building (Old Aberdeen Campus), utilizes experimental behavioral methods and neuropsychological testing to explore the interplay between perceptual, cognitive, and motor systems.
