Dr. Simona Martorana is a Lecturer in Classics at the Australian National University (ANU), specializing in Latin literature, gender studies, and ecocriticism. She teaches courses such as Introductory Latin, Advanced Latin, and seminars on ancient memory practices. Previously, she held a Humboldt Research Fellowship at Kiel University and the University of Hamburg (2022–24), and was a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University. Her research integrates philological rigor with interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on classical and medieval Latin texts.
Her publications include Seeking the Mothers in Ovid's Heroides (Cornell UP, 2024) and co-edited volumes like Body and Medicine in Latin Poetry (De Gruyter, 2025). Current projects explore plague narratives and medieval Latin fables. Martorana’s research interests span gender theory, environmental humanities, and legal theory in antiquity.
Her scholarly contributions include articles on Seneca’s tragedies, ecocritical interpretations of classical texts, and critical editions of medieval literature. She actively engages with public scholarship through conferences and edited volumes, such as a panel on Sappho at the 13th Celtic Conference in Classics (2022).
