Simona Fojtova is the Director of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGS) at Transylvania University, where she champions interdisciplinary education and social justice. She holds a Ph.D. (2006) and M.A. (1998) from the University of New Mexico, and a B.A. (1996) from Masaryk University. Her work bridges feminist theory, queer studies, and transnational perspectives, emphasizing cultural critique and systemic inequality.
Key contributions include co-founding the Medúza Gender Studies Center in the Czech Republic and the Women’s Interest Library, addressing gaps in feminist resources post-1990s. Fojtova’s research focuses on gender dynamics in Central Europe, migration, and legal frameworks, with notable publications in Czech Feminisms and Queer Visibility in Post-Socialist Cultures. She co-authored Women in the Brain: A History of Glial Cell Metaphors with Meg Upchurch, analyzing gendered scientific language.
