Simon ter Meulen

Simon ter Meulen is an Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) at the ifo Center for the Economics of Education, University of Munich, and a CESifo affiliate. His research focuses on Labor Economics and the Economics of Education, employing (quasi-)experimental methods to inform education policymakers, teachers, and parents. He has collaborated extensively on topics like school starting age, grade retention, and refugee education.

• Teaching: Taught courses including 'Economic Evaluation of Education Policies' (rated 1.0/1.0 by students) and 'BSc Economics of Education.'
• Invitations/Public Engagements: Discussed education incentives with Dutch political party D66, participated in French Conseil scientifique de l’éducation nationale, and organized sessions at LESE conferences.
• Research Projects: Led a seed-funded project on refugee education (ASF grant) and co-authored planned works for the Journal of Economic Literature and GLO Handbook on Grade Retention.
