Professor Simon de Graaf is a globally recognized expert in animal reproduction, artificial breeding, and reproductive technologies at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, The University of Sydney. He holds a BScAgr(Hons/Medal), PhD, and GradCertEducStud(Higher Education). As Secretary General of the International Congress on Animal Reproduction, his research has secured over $7.4M in funding and produced 80+ journal articles and book chapters.
His research interests focus on optimizing reproductive outcomes in livestock, particularly sheep, with emphasis on semen assessment, climate impacts, and fertility enhancement. He has trained over 2,500 students in veterinary medicine and agriculture.
Recent publications address fertility trends in Australian sheep, laparoscopic insemination success, and dietary effects on sperm quality. Awards include Fellowships from the Royal Society of NSW and the Society of Reproductive Biology.
He leads projects funded by Australian Wool Innovation and collaborates with the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and Sydney Nano Institute. His work bridges academic research with industry applications, enhancing livestock productivity and sustainability.
