Simon Tan is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Sydney Business School and a member of the China Studies Centre. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and has lectured at King’s College London prior to his current role.
- Research interests include audit practices, sustainability reporting, economic calculations in natural disaster risk mitigation, and public policy impacts on accounting.
- Editorial roles: Deputy Editor of Accounting and Finance, editorial board member of several journals.
- Teaching units: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Corporate Governance, Research Methods.
Simon's recent publications focus on corporate governance dynamics, institutional complexity, and sustainability in accounting practices across Australia, China, the EU, and the UK. His work employs qualitative methodologies, including interviews and textual analysis.
He supervises research students and coordinates the research seminar series in the Discipline of Accounting, Governance and Regulation. Simon has received grants from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants for his research projects.
