Dr. Simon Poole is an Associate Professor of Cultural Education at the University of Chester's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. He co-directs the Centre for Research into Education, Creativity and Arts through Practice (RECAP) and developed the MA Creative Practices in Education programme. His research explores the intersection of folk traditions, creative practices, and education, with particular focus on gardening as therapeutic pedagogy.
Research interests center on cultural education through arts-based practices, examining how gardening, music, and storytelling foster wellbeing, ecological awareness, and community-building. His work emphasizes 'growing for wellbeing' as a framework for emotional literacy development.
Publications demonstrate strong focus on innovative pedagogies, with recent works exploring rewilding in art education, digital poetry therapy during crises, and folkloristic approaches to music pedagogy. Research consistently bridges education, arts, and health sectors.
Supervises doctoral candidates across education disciplines and leads the Creative Practices module in the EdDoc programme. Founded Mintopia plant nursery as a National Plant Collection demonstrating horticultural education applications.
