Simon Lam is a DPhil candidate at the Faculty of History, University of Oxford, specializing in the history of war in modern China. His research focuses on the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War, examining political reconstruction efforts in South China (1944–1946) through archives, diaries, and memoirs from international sources.
- Education: MA in History of War (King’s College London), BA in History and Ancient History (University of Exeter)
His work addresses the Guomindang’s failure and the Chinese Communist Party’s success in post-war reconstruction, emphasizing rural South China’s contested political visions. Simon contributes to public history via the AskHistorians project on Reddit and co-convenes the Oxford International History of East Asia Seminar series.
