Simon LOBACH is a PhD Researcher in International History and Politics specializing in environmental history of Latin America and the Caribbean. His dissertation examines the socio-environmental impacts of the Amazonian aluminium industry. He holds a Doc Mobility grant (2022) and has taught courses on extractivism and served as a research assistant for the 'Synthetic Lives: The Futures of Mining' project since 2022.
Education: Pursuing a PhD in International History and Politics with expected completion in December 2023. Supervisors: Susanna Hecht and Filipe Calvão.
- Research focuses on traditional communities' interactions with extractive industries, hydroelectric projects, and reforestation efforts in Amazonia.
- Publications address colonial perceptions of Indigenous/Maroon communities, aluminium's environmental legacy, and green economy performance.

Grants/Consultancies: Worked as a consultant for UNESCO’s World Water Development Programme and UNEP’s Green Economy Initiative. Also held roles in social insurance and freelance writing.
